TAKE UP THE SHIELD OF FAITH

Mathew 9:18-38 exposes a part of our Christian life that has for so long been dormant.

What does it really mean to have faith in Jesus Christ even in the time of adversity? When we consider the synagogue leader who came to Jesus so He could wake his dead daughter or the woman suffering from bleeding for twelve years or even the two blind men who came to Jesus to seek for their sight to be regained, it is evident that they all came to Jesus knowing that when they met Him, they will not go back the same. Jesus healed them not because they asked but because they attached faith to their asking.

There was some mountain moving certainty behind their asking because they believed in that name that is above all other names, they believed in the person of Jesus as the supreme authority with the power to change a dying situation.

How many times have you asked anything from God and not received?

How long have you been asking from God and yet it seems there is no response?

I have recently out of frustration and hopelessness questioned God about my life and how I wished it to better than it is. I asked Him why does it seem any time I pray He doesn’t answer.

Instead of having faith that He who has created us and formed us in His image is able to do exceedingly and abundantly all that we ask for, we rather resort to complaining. We end up complaining about everything and asking for nothing.

When we go to God, we have to go to Him broken, we have to go to Him having no plan. We have to have faith by handing over all our problems that so much weigh us down from actualizing our true selves in God.

Economics and the financial sector teach us not to place all our eggs in one basket. But when we go to God, we put all the eggs in one basket and hand over the basket to Him because we know for sure that He who has started a good thing in us is able to see it through to a perfect end.

Putting these words down has not been easy for me because I am in a very difficult point in my life. I lost my job in a very hard time, I feel I am lacking behind in life because my friends are in a better place than I am, I feel lost often with no one to lean on. All am saying is my human perspective is telling me my life is at a standstill and there seems to be no progress. It is really hard sometimes for everybody that we can’t push to the background and pretend doesn’t exist.

But just like the two blind men who regained their sight, or like the woman who has for 12 years been bleeding nonstop and was finally healed after encountering the working wonders of Jesus which could only be made visible because of the exercise of faith, so will every hard time turn around for the good of them that love the lord if only we gain momentum in our faith life.

No condition, not even death, sickness, unemployment or even financial troubles not to mention spiritual decline will stay the same after encountering the Lord Jesus Christ. He will turn around our good. For Christ our King, nothing is impossible with faith.

Our asking therefore should take a new turn where faith is the only factor we fall on.
